I had the same two similar looking sets of flatware for the past 15 years or so that I bought when I first moved away from home. They were cheap and lightweight and I did not know anything better existed until a friend of ours began letting us use his home down in the Keys. He has Oneida flatware in the house and the two times we went I took notice of their weight, balance and sturdiness, not to mention they were attractive on the table. I finally decided to see what was the big deal about expensive flatware. I found out when they arrived. Mercer is not the top of the line for Oneida, but it's very well made and durable and very attractive. I like the part shiny part satin handle. They hold up well in the dishwasher so far. They take up more room in the drawer because they are much thicker than my old raggedy flatware. I love them and highly recommend this brand of flatware.
